The Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) seeks a Chair of Neurosurgery to continue to support and grow a financially and clinically sound enterprise in a competitive and expanding marketplace.  The Chair has responsibility for defining the clinical, research, and educational priorities of the Department as it strives to meet its clinical, teaching, and scientific missions.  Of particular importance is strong clinical leadership experience in an academic setting, along with the abilities to successfully recruit, strategize, mentor, collaborate, and understand the ever-changing healthcare environment and operational achievements required to lead the Department into the future.

The Chair of Neurosurgery will be an accomplished physician prepared to devote this phase of their career to the advancement of faculty, the department, and the medical school. They will be an individual with an engaging and open leadership style – someone who can inspire the faculty, staff, trainees, patients, and potential donors alike.  The Chair will be active in national activities, having a professional network that can support recruitment and reputation building.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will demonstrate a passion for the mission and vision of the MCW Department of Neurosurgery and will have a strong track record of clinical excellence, scholarly achievement, and academic leadership. In addition, candidates should possess the following qualifications, experience, and skills:

• MD, DO, MD/PhD, fellowship trained in Neurosurgery and board certified in Neurosurgery.
• Eligible for an unrestricted license in the State of Wisconsin
• Academic leadership experience and accomplishment commensurate with qualifications for an MCW faculty appointment at the Associate Professor or Professor level
• Experience in medical education/administration, strong evidence of administrative ability, including, but not limited to, interpersonal, leadership, and management skills.
• An ability to articulate a compelling vision and implement a strategy that engages and advocates for patients, faculty, staff, students, partners, and donors alike.
• A record of scholarly achievements through contributions to academic neurosurgery, basic science, and/or clinical and translational research
• Demonstrated personal and professional commitment to valuing diversity, promoting inclusion by modeling, and fostering diversity and cultural proficiency.
• Unquestionable integrity and personal ethics
• Outstanding communication skills, both oral and written
• An entrepreneurial, collaborative, creative, and driven spirit
