Program Information

Mayo Clinic's campus in Arizona offers a one-year clinical Neuro-Oncology Fellowship at its state-of-the-art National Cancer Institute-designated Cancer Center in Phoenix. The neuro-oncology program has three full-time neuro-oncologists, a nurse practitioner, patient nurse navigator and 2 full time neuro-oncology nurses.  In addition, the fellow works with a multidisciplinary team of neurosurgeons, radiation oncologists, neuropathologist, and support staff. As a fellow, you have broad exposure to all aspects of clinical neuro-oncology with the possibility to complete rotations at the Mayo Clinic campus in Rochester, Minnesota. You will complete the required pediatric rotation at Phoenix Children's Hospital, which consistently ranks among the nation’s best children’s hospitals. It is a one-year fellowship following completion of residency in Neurology or Neurosurgery, or Medical Oncology fellowship. Upon successful completion of the first year of training, a second research-focused year could be arranged depending on the availability of funds and your interests.

Most of your time as a fellow is spent in an outpatient setting evaluating adult patients afflicted with various brain/spine tumors as well as neurologic complications of cancer and its therapies. You will also engage in discussions regarding diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment plans with patients and their families. The continuity clinic allows our fellows to have clinic time for patient’s follow-up. The unique opportunity is the engagement with the Children’s Tumor Foundation (CTF) designated Neurofibromatosis Clinic.
